Congratulations EA! You’ve Been Voted The Worst Company In The US!

Readers of the Consumerist have crowned Electronic Arts the worst company in America, with 64 per cent of more than 250,000 votes being thrust upon them.

Despite continued high sales from the company that provides top selling games such as Mass Effect 3, ultimately Consumerist readers decided that the type of greed exhibited by EA, which is supposed to be making the world a more fun place, is worse than Bank of America’s avarice, which some would argue is the entire point of operating a bank.

However, EA doesn’t seem too bothered. Corporate comms chief John Reseburg told Kotaku: “We’re sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren’t nominated this year.

“We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.”

And EA’s PopCap has come out in defence of its owner. The “business of games is hard”, PopCap co-founder John Vechey said in a blog post, and “the art of games is harder”.

“Everyone makes mistakes. Yup. EA does not have a perfect past. It’s made HR mistakes. It’s made huge game design screw ups. It’s messed up studios, marketing campaigns and beloved franchises (sometimes all at once). It will do so again. There is no perfect company, and I won’t promise perfection from PopCap.”
