You can be pretty confident they’ll nail it, art and design is one of Pretty Weird’s core strengths – members of the team have advised the Smithsonian Museum’s “Art of Video Game” display! Despite being a small team, everyone at Pretty Weird is a gamer at heart and all 11 of them have taken on a conceptual designer role in addition to their official job.
Company CEO and Creative Director, August Bender has been a gaming fan since an early age – producing over 700 pages of artwork and ideas for his favourite games by the fourth grade! This overall passion for the industry is clear to see in the potentially cross-platform Project Slugger (working title), Pretty Weird’s first game.
Project Slugger is currently the focus of a Kickstarter campaign, which they hope will lead to the game being published in late summer 2013. The game is a co-op side scrolling adventure that builds on the strengths of Pretty Weird’s art background by having “a unique blend of cartooned characters and intricately painted backgrounds, with emphasis on high impact colour. Each level will have its own untiled background, and all animations will be hand drawn.”
